OKLAHOMA CITY — Sonic Drive-In is launching grab-and-go products for grocery stores. Developed with licensing partners including Jel Sert Co., Ziegenfelder and Quality Candy, the fast-food company’s flavors such as Ocean Water and cherry limeade are featured in frozen novelties, gelatins, puddings and lollipops.
The products will be available in retail outlets nationwide this spring.
“With the introduction of these new and exciting retail products, we’re keeping Sonic top-of-mind by meeting current fans where they are and welcoming new fans to the brand where a drive-in does not yet exist,” said John Budd, chief strategy and business development officer.
It’s a strategy seen lately by more and more restaurant companies, including the upcoming launch of Taco Bell tortilla chips and ready-to-drink coffee beverages from brands such as Starbucks and McDonald’s. Krispy Kreme Doughnuts recently partnered with the Jelly Belly Candy Co. to develop jelly beans featuring the brand’s most popular donut varieties. Building brand awareness through consumer packaged goods in grocery stores has been a key strategy for the Dunkin’ Brands Group, which in recent years has introduced an expanding portfolio of Dunkin’ Donuts branded packaged and ready-to-drink coffee and Baskin-Robbins’ packaged ice cream products.
