KANSAS CITY — Coffee and ice cream manufacturers have ditched the dairy and picked plant-based ingredients to formulate their new products.
A blend of coconut and cashew milk replaced dairy High Brew Coffee’s new plant-based lattes. Made with cold-brewed Direct Trade Arabica, the dairy-free drinks contain nine grams of sugar and come in three flavors: Bourbon Vanilla, Toasted Coconut and Smoked Butterscotch.
“High Brew is a brand ‘for those who do’ so we would be remiss to ignore something our customers are so vocal about,” said David Smith, founder and chief executive officer of High Brew. “We worked long and hard to create a nut milk latte that was worthy of the High Brew name with clean energy, a great taste and lower sugar than many of the alternatives on the market.”
Coolhaus is debuting a dairy-free line of frozen desserts and frozen dessert cookie sandwiches made with a base of organic cocoa butter, pea protein and organic whole grain brown rice. The desserts are sweetened with cane sugar and contain equal parts chocolate chunks and chips.
The dairy-free pint flavors include Salted Caramel Crunch, Dirty Mint Chip, Cookie Dough Lyfe, Chocolate Campfire S’Mores, Peanut Butter Fudge Chip, Chocolate Sandwich Cookie Crumb, and Mocha Marcona Almond Fudge. The dairy-free cookie sandwich flavors include Horchata with Snickerdoodle cookies, Dirty Mint Chip with double chocolate cookies, Tahitian Vanilla Bean with chocolate chip cookies, Cookie Dough Lyfe with chocolate chip cookies, and Cookies and Cream with double chocolate cookies.
“While perfecting our product, it became important to focus less about guilt-free eating and more about never having to compromise with your desserts,” Coolhaus said. “When you indulge, you indulge. We’re pretty proud to come out of this with a dairy free line that is as creamy and dreamy as our original ice cream products.”
Cold-brew coffee meets almond and oat milk in two new products from Stok Cold Brew. Stok Oatmilk Latte and Stok Almondmilk Mocha are dairy-free, gluten-free and certified vegan. The oatmilk variety contains 135 mg of caffeine, and the almondmilk mocha version features 130 mg of caffeine per 12-oz serving.
“At Stok, we take the craft of cold-brew coffee seriously — but we also like to tinker with our recipes and have some fun," said Lindsey Morgan, marketing director for Stok Cold Brew. "Our new Oatmilk Latte and Almondmilk Mocha Cold Brews offer coffee fans a delicious, creamy and ready-to-drink brew that they can enjoy whenever the need for a pick-me-up strikes.”
Pure coconut cream serves as the base for the new dairy-free frozen desserts from Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams. The collection includes four flavors: Dark Chocolate Truffle, Cold Brew with Coconut Cream, Texas Sheet Cake and Roasted Peanut Butter & Strawberry Jam.
“This is dairy-free ice cream that’s not jealous of dairy, made by people who love dairy,” said Jeni Britton Bauer, founder of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams. “Bringing people together is the core of what Jeni’s is all about — building and inspiring our community. And we’re excited to be able to offer the pleasure of ice cream to our dairy-free, vegan and dairy-loving friends.”
