HOUSTON — Sysco Corp. has acquired J&M Wholesale Meats and Imperio Foods, Inc., two California distributors with approximately $44 million in combined annual sales.
J&M Wholesale Meats and Imperio Foods are sister companies based out of Modesto, Calif., that operate throughout northern California and Oregon. Founded in 2003, J&M is a food service distributor specializing in center-of-plate products for food service customers in small retail locations in the Hispanic segment. Imperio Foods was founded in 2014 and carries dry Hispanic retail-pack canned good products.
Both distributors’ executives will continue to manager their businesses under Sysco’s ownership.
“We are excited to welcome J&M Wholesale Meats and Imperio Foods into the Sysco family of businesses,” said Greg D. Bertrand, executive vice-president of U.S. food service operations for Sysco. “The acquisition of these businesses is a complementary adjacency to our existing California area business and provides Sysco with the opportunity to further extend our reach into the Hispanic customer segment.”
The acquisitions of J&M Wholesale Meats and Imperio Foods are the second and third acquisitions for Sysco in 2019. In late January, the company entered into an agreement to acquire Waugh Foods, Inc., an Illinois broadline distributor.
