Kellogg to lay off 108 in connection with shutdown of frozen foods facility
BATTLE CREEK, MICH. — Kellogg Co. said it will lay off 108 employees at its frozen foods plant in Atlanta by October. The layoffs were disclosed in a Federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) filed with the Georgia Department of Labor.
Kris Bahner, a spokesperson for Kellogg, said employees and stakeholders were made aware of the layoffs in October 2018.
“At that time, we announced our intent to close our Atlanta plant, as it does not allow for cost-effective expansion and growth of the business,” Ms. Bahner said. “The closure should be complete by Q4 2019 and will result in 108 layoffs. This decision is the right thing to do for our business; it is never an easy decision to make when people are impacted.”
The layoffs are part of Kellogg’s Project K cost-cutting plan. Kellogg debuted Project K in late 2013. The company describes Project K as “a significantly-sized project,” which was expected to generate between $425 million and $475 million of annual cost-savings by 2018.
