TORONTO — Acid League, a maker of pantry staples, has raised $6 million in funding. The new capital coincides with the exclusive launch of a dozen new products at Whole Foods Market stores nationwide.
Founded in 2019, Acid League produces a range of acidic items, including vinegars, vinaigrettes, hot sauces, condiments, dressings, tonics and more. The startup has developed a proprietary fermentation process and uses ingredients such as coffee, bourbon, cantaloupe juice, saffron, chamomile, strawberry juice and kombu to create unique flavor profiles. Acid League’s non-alcoholic Wine Proxies, added last year, feature layered blends of juices, teas, spices and bitters and are served at fine-dining establishments across North America.
The funding round was led by existing investors InvestEco Capital and BrandProject. Springdale Ventures also participated.
Among the brand’s new products launching at Whole Foods Market are pineapple habanero hot sauce, raw seafood hot sauce, hot deli mustard, cocktail sauce, barbecue bourbon peach put sauce and triple garlic pan sauce.
“We couldn’t be happier to deepen our collaboration and partnership with both our investors and Whole Foods Market,” said Scott Friedmann, chief executive officer and co-founder of Acid League. “It means the world to us that InvestEco and BrandProject have returned as investors, and we are thrilled to now also be backed by Springdale Ventures. This new launch with Whole Foods Market embodies everything that Acid League is about — reinventing tired pantry staples in an unexpected way.”
