TORONTO — McCain Foods finalized its acquisition of Scelta Products, Kruiningen, Netherlands, for an undisclosed sum on Sept. 8.
A maker of frozen, vegetable-based snacks, Scelta’s product line of breaded mushrooms, onion rings, and cauliflower fries joins McCain’s growing portfolio of prepared vegetable appetizers.
“With common customers and shared values as family-owned companies, there is a natural complement between McCain Foods and Scelta Products,” said Max Koeune, chief executive officer of McCain.
The two companies had an ongoing partnership for 13 years prior to the acquisition, now fully integrating their product lines and increasing production capacity for growth in the European and international markets.
Scelta’s acquisition marks McCain’s latest investment in expanding its frozen vegetable appetizer market share in recent years, following other acquisitions and investments in brandslike Strong Roots, Ad van Geloven and Forno de Minas.
