Food Entrepreneur LOS ANGELES — BetterBrand, a maker of low-carb, high-protein bagels and buns, has added to its list of high-profile backers Anton Zaslavski, a record producer and songwriter known as Zedd. The investment comes on the heels of the company’s recent $6 million Series A funding round.

Dubbed “the Beyond Meat of carbs,” BetterBrand developed technology to produce the Better Bagel, which has the net carbohydrate equivalent of two banana slices, the protein content of four eggs and the sugar content of one stalk of celery, according to the company. Recent additions to the lineup include the Better Bun, with the net carbohydrate equivalent of two apple slices, and the Better Hawaiian Roll, with 250% more protein and 90% fewer carbs than a traditional sweet Hawaiian roll, according to the company.

Mr. Zaslavski joins a list of investors that includes Sean Thomas, grandson of Wendy’s founder Dave Thomas, and actors Patrick Schwarzenegger and Emmy Rossum, among others.

“Health and wellness is an ever-evolving passion of mine, and through that journey I discovered The Better Bagel,” Mr. Zaslavski said. “It’s a product I stand by and has been a game-changer as part of my high protein, low calorie diet. I’m thrilled to officially be involved with BetterBrand to help shine a light on their innovative yet compromise-free products.”

In addition to the investment, BetterBrand will release its first product collaboration, The Limited Edition Zedd x The Jalapeño Chedder Better Bagel, which incorporates jalapeños and vegan cheddar shreds.

"Anton has been both impressive and inspiring to work with, and we’re grateful to have him on this journey,” said Aimee Yang, founder and chief executive officer of BetterBrand. “As an already existing consumer, he has a deep understanding of the brand and product; knows how to provide an unparalleled customer experience; and is aligned with our mission of breaking barriers as a champion of hope, freedom and joy."
