Applebee’s reveals summer season launches
KANSAS CITY — Applebee’s is launching six new items with summer in mind. The grilled onion sirloin features Vidalia onions and Hawaiian BBQ sauce. Other menu additions are the shrimp scampi linguine and strawberry and avocado salsa. For a healthier pick, Applebee’s is offering a Weight Watchers-endorsed Chicken Freshcado, which is a fire-grilled chicken breast with avocado, vegetables, and white rice. To round out the new food selections, there will be new cocktails and margaritas on the menu, including a strawberry lime margarita and a spiked summertime soda. “Forget the polar vortex, and bring on summer fun,” said Peter Czizek, vice-president of culinary and menu strategy. “Our new menu is full of bright dishes made with freshly prepared ingredients that bring out great flavors for warmer weather, and we can’t wait for our Guests to discover how Vidalia onions take our steaks to the next level.”
Häagen-Dazs rolls out summer gelato flavors
OAKLAND, CALIF. — Häagen-Dazs is introducing new flavors for the warmer weather. For a limited time only, Häagen-Dazs will be offering ice cream varieties such as banana split, cookies and cream, and pomegranate dark chocolate ice cream bars. The banana split and cookies and cream flavors are available in 14-oz cartons for a suggested retail price of $4.79, while the pomegranate dark chocolate bars will be available in packs of four for $4.39. Extensions to the gelato line include caramelized banana chip, pistachio, pomegranate swirl, and tiramisu. These will be available in 14-oz cartons for $4.79 or in 3.6-oz cups for $1.49. “We have a very dedicated fan base that is always looking for ways to enhance the ice cream or gelato experience,” said Alex Placzek, brand director. “The response to our gelato line has been overwhelmingly positive and we are thrilled to offer fans a mix of new flavor options: some are innovative and modern while others are a tribute to Italian flavors that have been around for centuries.”
Jamba Juice adds coconut water to fruit refreshers
EMERYVILLE, CALIF. — Jamba Juice is re-introducing fruit refreshers for a limited time only. All refreshers are made with coconut water and fruit and are available in pina colada, tropical mango, and island strawberry. Fruit refreshers don’t contain high-fructose syrup, artificial flavors, or preservatives.
Baskin-Robbins launches Greek frozen yogurt
CANTON, MASS. — Baskin-Robbins is stepping up healthier menu options with a new Greek frozen yogurt option called Super Yumberry. The flavor is a combination of berry-flavored Greek frozen yogurt swirled with a berry ribbon. Yumberry Greek frozen yogurt contains 130 calories per 2.5-oz scoop and packs in live and active cultures. The new addition is available nationwide in May and June. ”We’re excited to introduce our first-ever Greek frozen yogurt flavor to give our guests yet another better-for-you option to enjoy as we head into the summer season,” said Jeff Miller, executive chef and vice-president of culinary innovation at Dunkin’ Brands. “At Baskin-Robbins, we’re committed to offering our guests a wide variety of frozen treat options to fit their individual lifestyle needs, and our Super Yumberry Greek Frozen Yogurt is a delicious, better-for-you addition to our flavor lineup.”
Dunkin’ Donuts features frozen Coolattas
CANTON, MASS. — Dunkin’ Donuts is cooling down the summer temperatures with a new Coolatta frozen beverage flavor. The new Coolatta flavor, Arnold Palmer, joins watermelon, blue raspberry, strawberry, Minute Maid orange, and coffee varieties. All Coolattas are available nationwide throughout the summer months. John Costello, president of global marketing and innovation at Dunkin’ Brands, said, “With the beginning of warm weather, our guests look forward to the introduction of new and unique Coolatta frozen beverage flavors to keep themselves refreshed no matter how hot the temperature. Stonefire Authentic Flatbreads introduces Naan Crisps
TORONTO — Stonefire Authentic Flatbreads is taking a new flavor approach to the classic flatbread snack food. The new varieties include original, everything, garlic Parmesan, and Tandoori spice. Planters debuts new peanut varieties
NORTHFIELD, ILL. — Planters, a division of Kraft Foods, is rolling out new peanut flavors including salted caramel, cocoa, chipotle, and smoked. The varieties are available nationwide for a suggested retail price of $1.99 per 6-oz container.
