New baking mixes feature better-for-you and premium ingredients.
E-commerce coffee company Social Brew, which is dedicated to helping survivors of global human trafficking, launched a line of Hawaiian-inspired pancake mixes. The 8-oz dry mixes feature flavors including coconut, guava, macadamia nut and mochi.
“Adding pancakes to the Social Brew lineup was a natural next step for us,” said Simone Ispahani, founder and chief executive officer of Social Brew. “Each pancake flavor pairs perfectly with our gourmet coffee blends and offers consumers another option to support the fight against human trafficking with their purchase. To date, Social Brew has made several meaningful donations to our two non-profit partners to raise awareness of the costs of human trafficking and help the victims of this global tragedy recover from their trauma. Looking ahead, we plan to build on this momentum as we expand our mission to help prevent human trafficking and support survivors.”
Ice cream company Halo Top expanded its portfolio with the addition of a line of boxed and single-serve baking mixes.
The line, introduced under the brand name Halo Top Desserts, includes a light cake mix in single-serve cups, and light baking mixes for fudge brownies and peanut butter chocolate chip cookies. The microwavable light cake mix in single-serve cups is available in three varieties: chocolate, strawberry and birthday cake, and contains 170 calories.
According to the company, all the baking mixes will be manufactured by General Mills, Inc. They will be available at Walmart and Kroger locations beginning in early February, with further national retail availability coming in the summer. The single-serve cake mixes have a suggested retail price of $2.89, and the boxed mixes have a suggested retail price of $4.99.
Conagra Brands, Inc. partnered with Grammy Award-winning artist and philanthropist Dolly Parton to introduce a line of Southern-style desserts under its Duncan Hines brand.
Inspired by the country music star’s favorite family recipes, the Duncan Hines Dolly Parton’s lineup includes a Southern-style coconut flavored cake mix, Southern-style banana flavored cake mix, creamy buttercream frosting and chocolate buttercream frosting. The cake mixes have a suggested retail price of $2.19, and the frostings have a suggested retail price of $2.09.
Hometown Food Co. gave its Hungry Jack brand a makeover, launching new packaging, a renovated website and reformulated pancake mixes.
As part of the refresh, Hungry Jack’s packaging was redesigned to feature “a bolder and more modern design that signifies where the brand stands today,” the company said. Meanwhile, the brand’s pancake mixes have been reformulated with no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.
The company said the updated look and “made without” messaging will appeal to new consumers while retaining fans of the Hungry Jack brand.
Duncan Hines, a subsidiary of Conagra Brands, Inc., expanded its partnership with Grammy Award-winning artist Dolly Parton through her licensing partner IMG.
The company added four new baking mixes to the noted musician’s current portfolio with Duncan Hines, including a cornbread mix, biscuit mix, caramel turtle brownie mix and fudgy brownie mix. Ms. Parton’s baking mix line initially debuted with Southern-style coconut flavored cake mix, Southern-style banana flavored cake mix, creamy buttercream frosting and chocolate buttercream frosting.
Two Bay Area-based brands partnered to release a gluten-free muffin mix formulated with upcycled ingredients.
Renewal Mill upcycles the leftover pulp from plant milk production into “climate-friendly flours” and baking mixes. Its latest launch, a chai oat muffin mix, was developed in collaboration with specialty sweetener brand Just Date. The product is formulated with Renewal Mill’s upcycled oat milk flour and organic date sugar derived from dried and ground kentichi dates that previously were wasted.
King Arthur Baking Co. has launched a collection of keto-friendly baking mixes as well as a gluten-free pizza dough flour.
The keto mixes, which are gluten-free, grain-free and made using non-GMO certified ingredients, are available in a yellow cake mix, chocolate cake mix, all-purpose muffin mix and pizza crust mix. Each mix has 2 grams or less of net carbs per serving and no added sugar.
Powdered nut butter company PB2 expanded into the baking aisle with the launch of its first line of baking mixes. PB2 Pantry baking mixes are formulated with roasted peanut flour and will be gluten-free, vegan and kosher.
