The 2023 show saw indulgent treats expand in snacking occasions.
Hershey’s Reese’s brand introduced both a creamy and crunchy take on its peanut butter cups. Both peanut butter cups feature the chocolate and peanut butter combination, but the peanut butter filling is either creamy, or crunchy with peanut chunks.
Chocolate brand Chocxo debuted its dark milk chocolate toffee almond and sea salt snaps, the latest product to join the company’s low-sugar chocolate line. The new toffee snaps feature a blend of dark milk chocolate, toffee bits, diced almonds and a sprinkle of sea salt. Each mini bar has 80 calories, 3 grams of sugar and is gluten-free and kosher.
Family-owned and operated snack brand Chunk Nibbles won best in show for the Most Innovative New Product Awards for its limited-edition apple cinnamon-flavored Chunk Nibbles.
The Chunk Nibbles feature a nut-free mix of Chex, pretzels, freeze-fried apples and cinnamon crumbles, all tossed in a cinnamon coating.
Scharffen Berger debuted its line of vegan oat milk snack barks, under the brand name Breaks.
Breaks features the company’s 43% oat milk chocolate, which is sweetened with coconut sugar, combined with mix-ins. The mix-ins for the vegan snack barks are available in salted almond bark, coconut and quinoa bark, salted sunflower seed bark and gluten-free pretzel bark varieties.
“The rising trend of consumers purchasing plant-based product alternatives and increase in Google searches for plant-based foods underscores the importance of providing these types of options for consumers across all food categories,” said JP Mackey, president and chief sales officer for Scharffen Berger. “We’re excited that we’ve perfected an oat milk chocolate that delivers on the unsurpassed quality and taste expected of Scharffen Berger. Of course, bark lines are already out there, but with Breaks, we have created a first-of-its-kind bark line that offers a plant-based solution with high-quality taste in familiar flavors.”
Ferrero North America introduced Kinder chocolate, which is making its debut in the United States. The milk chocolate bar features a creamy filling, and may be broken apart to share, according to the company.
The Kisses brand added Hershey’s Kisses Milklicious, which features a chocolate milk filling in the center of a Hershey’s Kiss.
Morinaga America, Inc., debuted its new brand Hi-Soft, which features creamy salted caramel chews. The Hi-Soft caramel chews have been a staple in the Japanese market, but the company introduced them to the US market for the first time at the show.

rael-based chocolate brand 7th Heaven Chocolate launched its vegan oat milk-based collection to the US market.
The products originally were formulated with soy, but the company switched to oat milk in response to consumer demand in the United States. Offerings from 7th Heaven in a 3.5-oz size include flavors like caramel and salt, peanut butter cream, classic milk chocolate, hazelnut cream and white and cookies. Other flavors include peanut butter cornflakes, caramelized coconut, pistachio halva and hazelnut rice crisps in a 1.6-oz size.
The Hershey Co. added a new chocolate bar, which features popping candy and sprinkles in white chocolate crème, inspired by summer holidays like Memorial Day and the Fourth of July.
Ferrero’s Tic Tac brand expanded its portfolio with two varieties of Tic Tacs, including a Sprite-flavored option and a strawberries-and-cream-flavored option. The Sprite-flavored Tic Tac is a continuation of Ferrero’s partnership with The Coca-Cola Co., whose previous co-branded options included Coca-Cola-flavored Tic Tacs.
The Kellogg Co. is expanding its Rice Krispies Treats brand with a homestyle option, inspired by homemade Rice Krispies Treats, which are 50% bigger and feature larger marshmallows.
The Ice Breakers brand added a watermelon slushie flavor to its portfolio, which are available in both gum and mint offerings.
Morinaga America, Inc. introduced Chargel, a gel athletic drink. The gel drink is caffeine-free, and features a blend of carbohydrates, fruit juice and B vitamins. Chargel is available in white grape, green apple and strawberry varieties.
Nassau Candy introduced Clever Candy powder straws, a take on candy powder stix. The candy straws are available in a 2.7-oz peg bag, which is full of single straws, and 15-inch giant straws. The Clever Candy straws in the 2.7-oz peg bag come in tropical punch, cherry, grape and orange flavors, while the giant straws come in cherry, blue raspberry, strawberry and green apple flavors.
“Newstalgia, new takes on a candy classic, is such a popular trend in the confectionery space right now, we wanted to develop a product that brought new attention to a longtime candy favorite for a new generation,” said Andrew Reitman, executive vice president, national brand confections for Nassau Candy. “Our new Clever Candy Straws line offers all the fun customers remember from classic candy stix like Pixie Stix, but with even more intense flavors to tickle their taste buds.”
Kit Kat added a churro flavor to its portfolio, which features the brand’s crisp wafers coated in a churro-flavored crème.
Meiji America, Inc. expanded its Hello Panda snack brand with a vanilla offering in a 2.2-oz bag. The snack features the brand’s crispy cracker, filled with a vanilla crème.
“The 2.2-oz bag has seen great success in meeting consumers' snacking needs and increasing distribution of Meiji Hello Panda, so I am delighted to finally complete the flavor assortment with this introduction of vanilla,” said Geoffrey Guilfoile, brand manager at Meiji America Inc.
