Demand for spicy flavors is heating up menus.
KFC’s Hot & Spicy flavor makes its US debut in the form of Hot & Spicy Wings just as the NFL season is getting underway. The wings from the Yum Brands, Inc. subsidiary are spicy marinated and double hand-breaded in KFC’s signature Extra Crispy breading to create a balance of spice with a crunchy texture.
Hardee’s, a CKE Restaurants Holdings, Inc. brand, unveiled three new Nashville Hot flavor options for its Hand-Breaded Chicken platform.
The menu additions include the Nashville Hot Hand-Breaded Chicken Sandwich, Nashville Hot Hand-Breaded Chicken Tenders and Nashville Hot Hand-Breaded Chicken Biscuits.
The Monster Taco is returning to Jack in the Box ahead of Halloween for the third straight year, this time bringing a spicy twist with the Angry Monster Taco. Featuring melted American cheese, shredded lettuce, taco sauce and spices, the Angry Monster Taco is wrapped in a red shell. Both of the tacos will be available at Jack in the Box locations from Sept. 25 to Nov. 19.
IHOP, a subsidiary of Dine Brands Global, has introduced its first national biscuits menu featuring four new products and two existing offerings. The menu includes a breakfast biscuit sandwich, a chicken biscuit sandwich, fresh strawberries and a cream biscuit, a fresh strawberries and cream biscuit combo, individual buttermilk biscuits and a buttermilk biscuit and gravy combo.
"IHOP’s biscuits menu is a continuation of our menu evolution that offers craveable and flavorful items any time of day for us," said Kieran Donahue, chief marketing officer at IHOP. "IHOP’s off-premise ordering continues to account for over 20% of our business, and the brand has leveraged this latest biscuit menu addition to ensure items can be enjoyed whether guests dine-in or take their meal to-go."
Papa Murphy's released its new line of take-and-bake Monkey Bread products. The pull-apart offerings are available in two flavors: buttery garlic bread bites with marinara dipping sauce for savory cravings and cinnamon-drizzled Monkey Bread with cream cheese frosting for consumers with a sweet tooth.
"These shareable bread bites are the best way to bring everyone together at mealtime," said Tracey Ayres, vice president of brand and innovation for Papa Murphy’s. "Our sweet and savory Monkey Breads are a perfect addition to any meal. Make them a side or even a dessert – they’re sure to make your next at-home meal memorable."
MOD Pizza is making the Pocket Pie a permanent menu item. Launched as a limited-edition product on Pi Day, March 14, 2023, the hand-held foods are made with MOD's signature pizza dough, which is filled with a white sauce base and a variety of ingredients, oven fired and then folded. Available flavors include Italiano, with shredded mozzarella and parmesan cheese, pepperoni, salami, roasted red peppers, sliced tomatoes, basil and arugala; Four Cheese, featuring a blend of shredded mild-cheddar, mozzarella, asiago and parmesan cheeses; and Chicken Bacon Ranch, a mix of mild-cheddar cheese, chicken, bacon and a ranch drizzle.
"After overwhelming demand for a craveable, on-the-go option for lunch or dinner, the clear choice was to keep the Pocket Pie on our menu – permanently," said Scott Uehlein, vice president of culinary excellence and innovation at MOD Pizza. "As we continue our focus on menu innovation, we also will explore ways to evolve this super craveable, melty-good Pocket Pie."
Krispy Kreme has added a new permanent line of hot, frozen and iced coffees made with higher-quality beans for richer roasts. Using Arabica beans that are 100% responsibly sourced, the product line boasts more than 24 beverages. Examples include Original Glazed Iced Coffee, Frozen Caramel Mocha Latte, Caramel Latte and Classic Brewed Coffee.
"It’s time we delivered coffee worthy of pairing with our iconic doughnuts," said Dave Skena, global chief brand officer for Krispy Kreme. "With richer roasts, better beans and exceptional taste, we’re excited for our fans to try these new coffees."
Drive-thru coffee company 7 Brew Coffee has expanded its menu with its new cold brew offering. The cool beverage is brewed using 100% Peruvian coffee beans to create a light roast with chocolate flavor notes. 7 Brew developed the drink in response to the growing cold brew market that is expected to increase $1.37 billion between 2020 and 2025, the company said, citing research from a 2022 Technavio report.
"Our guests love that they can enjoy anything from a small hot coffee to an energy drink, and we’re now providing them with even more choices with the introduction of our custom, premium Cold Brew," said John Davidson, chief executive officer of 7 Brew Coffee. "We think Cold Brew will be a big hit at every location and every season."
