KANSAS CITY — Dairy Farmers of America plans to acquire 100% ownership of DairiConcepts, Inc., currently a joint venture of the D.F.A. and Fonterra Co-operative Group Ltd. DairiConcepts manufactures cheese, dairy ingredients and dairy flavor systems with eight U.S. facilities. DairiConcepts will operate as a D.F.A. subsidiary once the sale is final on Dec. 31.
The D.F.A. and Fonterra formed the joint venture in 2000 as equal owners. Fonterra will remain a customer of DairiConcepts.
“Our relationship with Fonterra remains strong,” said Rick Smith, president and chief executive officer of the D.F.A. “DairiConcepts has historically generated strong returns for our farmer-owners, and we look forward to continuing to strengthen the business and expand markets for our members’ milk.”
Kansas City-based Dairy Farmers of America, a national dairy marketing cooperative, is owned by more than 14,000 members on more than 8,000 farms in 48 states.
