KANSAS CITY — In a wave of demand for healthy foods and beverages, manufacturers are harnessing nutrient-rich superfoods to draw health-conscious consumers to their products.
Mamma Chia chose chia seeds as its superfood of focus. The brand recently released a new line: Mamma Chia Organic Chia & Greens. Each beverage combines chia seeds with vegetables like kale, spinach, broccoli, spirulina, barley grass and wheatgrass. Available in Soulful Greens (cayenne and lemon), Love Greens (beet and ginger), Grateful Greens (kale and mint), and Joyful Greens (ginger and lemongrass) varieties, the drinks are non-bioengineered, gluten-free, vegan, kosher and U.S.D.A. Certified Organic. Each bottle delivers 2,500 mg of omega-3 fatty acids, 7 grams of fiber, 4 grams of protein, 25% R.D.A. of vitamin A, and 95 mg of calcium.
“Our new, organic Chia & Greens Beverages are a refreshingly simple way to enjoy all of the nutritional benefits of chia — with an added boost of veggies — to power your soul’s purpose,” said Janie Hoffman, founder and chief executive officer of Mamma Chia.
Fresh Express picked a pair of superfoods to provide in its new lineup: kale and Greek Yogurt. Fresh Express’s new chopped kits include Bacon and Bleu with Greek Yogurt Dressing, and Sweet Kale, and the company’s new Gourmet Café Kits include Santa Fe Greek with Greek Yogurt Jalapeño Ranch Dressing, and Mediterranean Greek with Greek Yogurt Kalamata Feta Dressing.
Quinoa is the cornerstone of Pereg Gourmet’s new line: Quinoa Pops cereal. Made from popped quinoa, the cereal comes in vanilla, strawberry, chocolate and original varieties. The cereals are non-bioengineered, gluten-free, and contain no artificial flavors or colors.
